When you're chilled to the bone, curl up with this warming cardamom tea. Cardamom is sweet and spicy with surprising cooling properties. It may already be familiar to you because it is one of the flavors of chai.

Cardamom tea is a favorite ayurvedic recipe from Susmita Jasty, a gastroenterologist and an active member of the Art of Living foundation. Cardamom is a spice that is dense with the phytochemical compound cineole which is said to aid in digestion, soothe sore throats and upper respiratory infections with its analgesic and antiinflammatory properties.

Recipe: Place 2 black tea bags in 2-1/2 cups of water.  Add 6-8 cracked cardamom pods and 2 quarter inch slices of fresh or frozen ginger. Heat until lightly simmering, about 15 minutes.  Strain, add warmed skim milk to taste and enjoy!
